The wine cellar |
|
The wine cellarThe cellars extend in various directions under the house, terrace and gardens. They were excavated to provide building stone for the house. Traces of fossils, particularly the ammonites that the town of Montreuil-Bellay uses as its symbol, indicate the age of the rock strata, millions of years old. A large shaft from one of the cellars gives a worm’s eye view of the tower. The cellars' constant low temperature and high humidity make an excellent wine store. |
