House

Welcome to
La Maison Aubelle

La Maison Aubelle, a nobleman's house dating from the 16th century, stands in the heart of Montreuil-Bellay, a historic town set in the Loire valley 10 miles south of Saumur. The town is of special interest. As well as its ancient chateau, it has preserved almost all of its medieval walls, making it the last remaining fortified town in Anjou.

The house itself, built from the local tufa limestone, has been recently restored using the finest local craftsmen and materials by its English owners Peter and Sally Smith, and offers guests five outstanding apartments, a secluded walled garden and a heated swimming pool.

Montreuil-Bellay makes a perfect base for exploring the western part of the Loire valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its rich history and unspoilt way of life. Situated at the convergence of the three provinces of Poitou, Touraine and Anjou, it offers visitors the beauty of its countryside and its gentle quality of life.

Sites of historic interest, famous vineyards, fine fishing rivers and a landscape that will appeal to artists, all contribute to the special appeal of the region.

For the more energetic, there is excellent horse riding nearby, a microlight base just outside town, canoeing on the river and tennis on the town’s courts, as well as signposted walks of varying degrees of distance and difficulty.

Peter and Sally, as well as providing excellent accommodation, food and wine, will be happy to make any possible advance arrangements for their guests.

We regret that La Maison Aubelle is unsuitable for young children.
